Today in DC 274 (image optics and cinematic motion) we covered stop motion animation and pixelation. For those of you that don’t know and are reading this now… I am one of the graduate assistants to Marc Menet and many other fine Faculty members teaching this course at DePaul University.
The primary goal of this class is to introduce students to the idea of cinematography. We cover many topics including: lenses, depth of field, types of animation, 3D, Color Science and Slow motion.
It has been a tremendous success as far as popularity among the students. It’s fun laid back but, jam packed full of knowledge coming straight from Marc. By the way Marc is a very successful Cinematographer in this city. Marc, is someone I admire and look up to as a professional in this industry. I only say that because I believe that it’s important to know what your teacher has done. Especially in Film/TV/Video/Animation. Experience is key to a successful future, their experiences in turn help you. Marc has done some pretty amazing work inside/outside of DePaul.

In summation I made the provided video today with my new GoPro HD 2. Each image was shot on a 2 sec interval for roughly 30 minutes. It was about 900 photos. I imported the pictures into After Effects where I added some camera blur to give the composition the illusion of DOF (depth of field) color corrected it and added a vignette.
